Community Cares Program

Parents/Guardians DO NOT have to be working to receive help.

If your child needs academic support, the Community Cares Program is here!

The Community Cares Program (CCP) is dedicated to eliminating barriers for parents/guardians who may not have daycare coverage or the flexibility to stay at home with their children. This program is designed to help all parents/guardians with these barriers on days that their child(ren) are not required to physically report to school due to the regulations and contingencies of COVID-19.

The students will report to a safe and secure facility that is centrally located in their neighborhood or surrounding area. These facilities will ensure the daily attendance requirement is met.  All of these facilities have been specifically designated in high-need areas of Buffalo, NY, with consideration given to students and families who utilize public transportation or will be walking to and from programming. The local facilities are specially designed for parents/guardians to drop off their children safely as public school busing will not be provided.

We further want to ensure that families of students who have to return to work, including essential workers, who have continued to work through this pandemic, are covered by support services that provide their children a positive academic outcome.

CCP will work in partnership with eight community-based organizations throughout the city of Buffalo to provide interactive virtual support to K-8 grade (ages 5-13) students in Buffalo and the surrounding areas. This partnership is composed of agencies who have in the past provided extensive programming to school age children. The major component of this partnership will come through consultant work provided by proven curriculum-based childcare providers with over fifteen years of experience. The consultants have designed a system of engagement and support for successful virtual learning for the students in a safe environment that follows COVID-19 protocol. Our community partners and consultants are critical for the successful implementation and delivery of this array of supported services.

Our program will also provide students placed at-risk of falling behind additional comprehensive educational support. This support will be provided for students residing in various communities (including BPS and Charter School students), who are at-risk of becoming disconnected from the instructional and educational goals that they would meet in the normal, 5-day a week, academic schedule or with after-school programming. Our program is designed to improve social and academic competencies in a safe, orderly, and socially distanced environment. CCP will prepare them for continuing education during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

The Community Cares Program will operate, in conjunction with the New York State approved and BPS model of instruction.
Community Cares will provide up to 5-days of virtual support for families in need from 7:30am to 4:30pm.
